About The Ruby’s Garden Project & HOW WE HONOR PET LOSS

If you’ve ever dealt with the loss of a pet, you know how hard it can be when it’s time to say goodbye.

In 2020, Ruby, a small beagle with dwarfism, and Covington resident, died. Ruby had a lot of sass, and an online following. When she died, her followers donated money towards a project in her memory.

Ruby’s owner is Cole Imperi, who is now serving as the Board President. Cole and her husband, Victor, added to the donations and donated a total of $2,500 towards what is now being called “Ruby’s Garden.”

Trudy Lorenz— a board member, Covington resident and expert in native horticulture—has taken on the design and execution of the project. Rick Ludlum, our Superintendent, is working with Trudy on Ruby’s Garden.

In Covington, we have many pet owners. Pets are a part of our lives and we want to create a space to honor and appreciate these special creatures that share our lives with us.

WHERE IS RUBY’S GARDEN?

The garden is located right off the parking lot on 13th street. It’s the area underneath one of our most special tress on our grounds, the White Oak pictured on the left.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE?

The purpose of Ruby’s Garden is threefold:

  1. To develop an accessible, highly visible space within our cemetery grounds

  2. To beautify our grounds

  3. To honor pet loss

WHAT ARE YOUR NEEDS?

Right now, we are seeking donations towards the completion of the project. This includes monetary and in-kind donations. We need large stones for our walkway, a bench and an art piece.
